Junk E-mail Decisions and Litigation

AOL v. Over the Air Equipment, Inc.

In October 1997, AOL took its battle against junk e-mail to federal court with a suit against Over the Air Equipment, Inc., which repeatedly sent unsolicited bulk e-mail to AOL members. On October 31, 1997, the United States District
Court granted AOL a preliminary injunction barring OAE from sending unsolicited e-mail. In December, Over the Air Equipment agreed to a permanent injunction barring their transmission of unsolicited bulk e-mail to AOL and its members, and to pay AOL a substantial amount in compensation.
