Junk E-mail Decisions and Litigation

AOL v. Bluecard Publishing, et al.

In July 1998, AOL filed suit against Bluecard Publishing and David J. Shannon, et al. for transmitting tens of thousands of deceptive, unsolicited, and unwanted electronic mail messages to AOL members.  Despite requests to cease these activities, Defendants continued to send junk e-mail to AOL members employing numerous deceptive practices to mask their identities.  On January 5, 2000, Judge Thomas Rawles Jones, Jr. awarded AOL over $2 million in monetary damages and permanently enjoined the Defendants from further violating AOL's rights.
