Interactive Gift Express, Inc. v. CompuServe Inc., et al.

Plaintiff Interactive Gift Express, Inc. ("IGE") maintains that defendants,
comprised of computer software companies, publishing companies, and a
retail bookstore, have contributorily infringed and induced infringement of U.S. Patent No. 4,528,643 (the "Freeny patent"). The Freeny patent describes a method or apparatus for reproducing information in a material object at a point of sale location. With respect to the computer software and publishing company defendants, plaintiff contends that they are infringing the Freeny patent by selling software or documents "online," that is, over the Internet and World Wide Web.
